BUT MY FILES WILL NOT SYNC with each other UNLESS THE APP IS OPENED. I have turned off using the app on my computer. Who knew? Someone also said that if you access these synced files, then they are local again, and you have to change the settings to selectively sync AGAIN.ģ. It turns out that there is a whole OTHER setting deep in the menu that has to be changed IN ADDITION. It turned out that the files WERE NOT selectively synced, even though I had right clicked the files and marked them that way. Fine, but when I was away with terrible internet, I ran out of memory on my computer and could not figure out why. When I traveled abroad, I had set my files to selectively sync, to free up space on my computer. It's constantly trying to sync thousands of files, even though I have not changed anything.Ģ. I have a brand new Macbook Pro, and the new Dropbox App sucks the life out of it. Right now, there is a thread in the dropbox community about why people hate the new version.
It took a while for me to figure out what the software was doing wrong - and that it wasn't me causing the problem. In fact, there are so many issues, it is hard to isolate what the problems are.
Whatever the reason, the Dropbox team certainly followed the Peter Principle by rising to its level of incompetence. Perhaps the company got a bit greedy and wanted to be everything to everyone, and charge another 20 percent for a lesser product. I have spent hours trying to fix problems that previously DID NOT EXIST. Dropbox was my virtual filing cabinet, and my preferred way to share large files.īut this summer the company came out with a fancy, schmancy new version that is a bloated embarrassment. If I wanted to access my own documents from multiple devices, I could. If I needed to send someone photos, I would upload a folder to my computer, and send someone the link. The beauty of Dropbox was that it worked so well I could forget about it. Those cloud storage systems seemed separate from everything else on my computer. But I didn’t really look into them because I was happy with what I had. ICloud, and other big names are starting to offer alternatives.
